Plastering & Rendering in Liskeard

Liskeard is a traditional Cornish market town with a mix of period stone properties and modern housing on the A38 corridor.

Liskeard is a market town in south-east Cornwall, roughly 35 miles from Bude on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It's well-connected by rail to Plymouth and Penzance, which makes it a commuter town as well as a local service centre. The housing stock spans from Victorian stone terraces in the town centre to modern estates built out along the main roads.

The older housing in Liskeard is mostly Victorian and Edwardian stone construction — solid-wall terraces built from local Cornish slate or granite. These need careful consideration for render. A breathable system is the correct choice for the construction type; cement render on solid-wall Cornish stone creates moisture traps and accelerates decay. We see the results of past cement jobs on these properties regularly: hollow patches, damp internal walls, and render that's falling off the substrate.

Modern housing in Liskeard is standard cavity-wall construction — silicone render and monocouche are the appropriate systems here. The town's inland position on the moor edge means it's less exposed than coastal locations, but winter weather from the moor direction is still wetter than the national average. Silicone render's self-cleaning and water-shedding properties are worth the small additional cost over monocouche even for inland Cornish properties.

Liskeard is at the outer edge of our coverage area at around 35 miles. We take work here when it fits with other east Cornwall jobs — often combined with Launceston or Bodmin visits.
